This was one of our favorite views in the Terry Badlands, looking south toward the Yellowstone River and beyond in eastern Montana. Badlands often refer to places composed of heavily and easily eroded sedimentary rocks and clay rich soils, making it a challenge for vegetation to establish itself. Always check for local conditions when driving backcountry roads in places with such soils, as things can turn to “gumbo” and roads can become impassable rather quickly!
