This summer view is not far from where Starvation Creek feeds into the North Fork of the Flathead River. We hiked past a quite a few piles of bear and wolf scat en route to the river and on our way back from the confluence spooked a sub-adult black bear that fled through the woods!

At the confluence we briefly jumped into the frigid waters and then re-warmed ourselves on a gravel bar beach, enjoying the still strong sun, mild breezes, billowing, fast-moving clouds, and views upstream reminiscent of wild lands stretching to Alaska and The Yukon.
