Meriwether Lewis traveled through here in 1806, following a route the Nez Perce tribe recommended as an easy-to-find, well-traveled way to buffalo hunting grounds, the Missouri River and points east. The pass can be reached via a U.S. Forest Service road and trailhead in the Alice Creek drainage off of U.S. Highway 200 between Rogers Pass and Lincoln, Montana.
