This photo was taken on one of the coldest days I’ve been in Yellowstone, and I wasn’t standing out for very long to take this image before running back inside the Old Faithful Visitor Center! No matter when you visit, the eruption of this geyser is awe inspiring and memorable, but there’s something special about super cold days with no wind where the eruption of water then steam columns seems even more powerful and forceful against the winter sky. The coldest temperature I experienced in the park so far was -51 Fahrenheit in the early 2000s and the park’s all-time record low was a breezy minus 66 F!
