Sunrise Yellowstone Lake

Sunrise over Yellowstone Lake is a magical ephemeral time, as it was one early August morning a few years back. In this photo, you’re looking east toward the Absaroka Mountains on the other side of the vast, high-elevation wilderness lake.  Usually by mid-August the Lake Area experiences its first frost, signalling the eventual return of winter, snow and cold blanketing the park’s interior from November well into May.
