Toward the eastern end of Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley are some relatively easy to climb hills, from where you can savor some of the wildest vistas in the park’s Northern Range. It’s always a great idea to hike with three or more other people when you’re in bear country, and although we didn’t see any bears or other wild predators the day this photo was taken, we were mighty impressed with how well this Douglas fir tree withstood repeated rubbing from bison over the years!
