Lees Ferry is located within the Colorado River’s Marble Canyon in northern Arizona. Only about eight miles southwest of Page, Arizona as the raven and condor fly, it’s over a 40-mile drive from Page due to the region’s rugged topography.
It’s also the only place where motorists can access the Colorado River within 700 miles of canyon country. From the turnoff near Navajo Bridge, it’s a five-mile paved road drive to Lees Ferry, the official beginning of the 277-mile Grand Canyon.
Lees Ferry was a major staging area for exploration and eventual settlement of Northern Arizona by European Americans beginning in the 1870s, yet Native American peoples have lived here for thousands of years.
Half and full day guided rafting trips starting in Page end at Lees Ferry, while multi-day Grand Canyon whitewater rafting enthusiasts put in here, with just a few takeout points hundreds of rugged river miles downstream on the Colorado.
